Field Supervisor Position Annoucement

The Minnesota Crop Improvement Association (MCIA) is seeking applicants to fill a field supervisor position in a designated territory in Southern Minnesota. Individual will be responsible for inspections, audits and related activities in support of MCIA’s certification and other quality assurance programs.

TITLE: Field Supervisor

LOCATION: Southern Minnesota

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Manage and conduct field inspections and other MCIA field services for producers and handlers of crops in assigned territory.

  • Identify and recruit potential customers for MCIA services.

  • Advise members of MCIA program requirements and proper production techniques; conduct training for new members.

  • Monitor MCIA tag and certificate use and maintain current records to support MCIA programs.

  • Inspect assigned MCIA approved facilities and report inspection results.

  • Process necessary paper work and maintain current records to support ongoing certification and other MCIA programs.

  • Represent and promote MCIA at designated industry meetings, trade shows and other functions.

  • Inspect assigned organic operations; serve on certification committees and perform other duties in support of the MCIA organic certification program.

  • Serve as the MCIA liaison to specified MCIA committees.

  • Perform other miscellaneous seasonal duties, as required.

SPECIAL JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Incumbent must be willing to travel, primarily within Minnesota.

  • Incumbent must be a self-starter and be able to work autonomously.

  • Incumbent must possess good writing and oral communication skills.

  • Incumbent must be able to make independent decisions.

  • Incumbent should possess the ability to read and understand maps to find farms and fields.

  • Incumbent must be physically capable of performing the activities associated with this position.

EDUCATION: B.S. in Agronomy or agriculture related field.

EXPERIENCE: Minimum of one to three years of seed production or related agricultural experience.

Field Inspector Position Announcement

The Minnesota Crop Improvement Association (MCIA) is seeking applicants to fill field inspector positions. These positions are classified as part-time. Field inspections are performed at specified stages of crop maturity in the summer and fall. MCIA offers flexible working hours depending on the applicant's schedule. The availability of field inspection positions varies throughout Minnesota - most available positions are located in the major agricultural crop production areas of the state. TITLE: Field Inspector

POSITION OPEN: July to early August and from early September to early October. Flexible working hours can be arranged to fit the applicant's schedule.

LOCATION: Positions available throughout the major agricultural crop production areas of Minnesota.

MAIN FUNCTION: To inspect crop production fields enrolled in MCIA programs.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: Inspect crops to verify that fields meet specified standards for varietal purity, isolation, weeds and other crops to ensure that the crop produced will be suitable for stated purposes. Communicate inspection results through clear, concise written reports.

QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum - High school graduate desired. Knowledge of crop production and the ability to identify weeds is desirable. Persons in these positions must be detail oriented and have the ability to communicate their findings through concise written reports. Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, motor vehicle insurance and a satisfactory driving record.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Persons in these positions must have good eyesight (with or without corrective lenses) and be able to do a significant amount of walking in order to accurately determine the condition of fields.

WAGES/BENEFITS: MCIA offers competitive hourly wages (including overtime) commensurate with background, education and experience. MCIA will provide training and supervision for all inspectors. Inspectors must provide their own vehicle and will be reimbursed for mileage, postage, phone and meal expenses while on the job.
