MCIA has published the 2023 edition of our annual Winter Grains Directory. Growers can use the Winter Grains Directory to identify sources of certified and registered rye, triticale, winter barley, and winter wheat seed. The Winter Grains Directory includes crop variety descriptions as well as producer location and contact information.

Additionally, the Winter Grains Directory includes information on the availability of rye and winter wheat foundation seed from Minnesota and our neighboring states.

Advertise in the 2024 MCIA Directory

Advertising in MCIA’s Directory is an affordable and effective way for members to promote their businesses.

Every year, we distribute approximately 1,600 printed copies of the Directory to farmers, seed producers, conditioners, wholesalers, retailers, organic producers and processors, and many others. A digital version of the Directory is also available on the publications page of the MCIA website.

We have begun preparing the 2024 edition and are scheduled to go to press in October.

MCIA members who are enrolled in the Approved Facilities Program and MCIA-certified organic handlers can expect to receive an informational mailing soon regarding Directory advertising. To assure that your ad appears in the 2024 Directory, please place your reservation by September 1.

Ads from non-member businesses and organizations are also welcome.

2023 Minnesota Certifed Seed Guide Published

This year’s Minnesota Certified Seed Guide is now available! Minnesota Farm Guide published the 2023 edition earlier this winter. This annual publication is a collaborative effort of MCIA and the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES). It lists seed producers, includes MAES crop trial results, and features news and information relevant to the seed industry.

Take the opportunity to learn about the University of Minnesota’s new, high-yielding wheat release, MN-Rothsay. Also, Andrea Johnson contributes an article about the past and hopeful future of the barley industry in the Upper Midwest as the University of Minnesota’s breeding program, under the leadership of Kevin Smith, Ph.D., develops new varieties intended for food and beverage applications as well as animal feed.

The MCIA Directory includes a listing of certified and registered carryover seed.

The 2023 MCIA Directory will include a listing of carryover seed. Growers: If you have seed you want to list, please submit the Directory Carryover Seed Inclusion form that was included in your field inspection information packet.

You may also access the Directory Carryover Seed Inclusion form from the Client Resources page of the MCIA website, or download it from this link.

Or simply send MCIA the following information about your carryover seed: crop variety, your name, address, and telephone number.

This year’s Minnesota Certified Seed Guide is now available! Minnesota Farm Guide published the 2022 edition earlier this month. This annual publication is a collaborative effort of MCIA and the Minnesota Agricultural Experiment Station (MAES). It lists seed producers, includes MAES crop trial results, and features news and information relevant to the seed industry.

Take the opportunity to learn about the University of Minnesota’s new releases: three new conventional soybean varieties as well as a first-ever winter barley variety, MN-Equinox. Another article, written by Andrea Johnson, profiles MCIA Foundation Seed Manager Roger Wippler, who, for three decades, has led MCIA’s successful efforts to promote public seed varieties, working collaboratively with university breeders, certified seed producers, and farmers.
